With one hand on her hip and the other hand turning in an "I will make good choices" essay written out one hundred times (while her older brother was still sobbing in the corner stuck on number thirty-three, "I'm going to need to amputate my arm tomorrow after all this writing.") our conversation wasn't what I had expected. I was hoping for "I've learned my lesson and will never torment my younger sister again."

Lola: Next time you should make us write it two hundred times.

Me: How come?

Lola: We could use the extra penmanship practice before school starts.

Me: ...

Ooooffff. School can't start soon enough, my little stinkers. There's a special place in heaven for homeschooling parents.

We have turned writing assignments into essays. That way they have to give a reason as to why the choices they made were not the right ones. I am so with you on school.

Glad we're not the only one who uses this parenting strategy. Tell Lola we've made one of our kids write a sentence 1000 times (for a more serious infraction). Bet she might not be so excited about her penmanship then

Smiles, Pauline! As a double threat~Bible thumping Homeschool Mom~I just yelled at my kids write out, several times, in their best handwriting, Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
I support your constructive disciplinary tool...you may be closer to homeschooling than you might think!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAhA!!!!! My mother made us write out passages of scripture when we misbehaved. I think she chose passages from the old testament, things about what the law required for disobedient children. Maybe just the ten commandments.
