I started this blog when my youngest was learning to crawl and although I discouraged her from crawling (so she would remain my sweet baby girl forever), in true third-child stubbornness, she didn't listen and in a blink of an eye she did this to me...
Ouch.
In all fairness, with eighteen hundred minutes spent in the elementary school cafeteria even before she stepped foot inside her own kindergarten classroom, she was ready. On our brief walk to our new school she mentioned how unfair it was that she'd never ride the bus to school (like her siblings) and I told her how unfair it was that they never got so much one-on-one time walking to school with their parents (like she will). There isn't even an opportunity for her to bike to school because the five block radius around it is flooded with children walking. We are going to make some great memories on the path to school.
Although most kids in her class have been together since nursery school, Feenie walked into the room liked she belonged there. Within minutes a crowd of little girls gathered around to see her make "donut holes" with play-doh. It didn't take long for Feenie to convince them that they were all working in a bakery - each one having an important job, "If we work together we can make a gazillion donut holes!"
Feenie is 110% ready for kindergarten and after allowing her to camp overnight with her summer camp, this leaving-her-in-kindergarten-all-day-long thing is no big deal for me. (Did I just say that out loud? The same neurotic mother that wept for two months when her eldest started kindergarten.) During "circle time" the teacher went over rules and regulations and asked is anybody had questions. Thirteen little hands went up but only one person asked "can I bring my wiener dog to school?" and the entire class erupted in laughter.
It's going to be an awesome year. |
