Grandma's birthday, the first one we've celebrated without her. PDF Print E-mail

Today was Grandma's birthday.

For all the years that she was alive we've always celebrated birthdays with a dinner out - tradition has always been that the birthday person picks the restaurant. Grandma found great joy in visiting patients restaurants on her birthday, from an old school diner in Willoughby to a Chinese restaurant in Richmond Heights. One odd year she requested that her birthday dinner take place at McDonald's because she really wanted a Filet O'Fish. I tried to talk her out of it, on the phone "You can't celebrate a birthday at a fast food restaurant!", but she was firm about her choice. Suddenly I'm hungry for a Filet O'Fish, right now. Grandma had good taste!

Tonight we sang a very Happy Birthday for Grandma, licked the icing off of many cupcakes, signed a wiener dog birthday card and flew the card up to heaven with the help of many balloons. My ten-year-old son hid his face from us and looked like he was on the verge of crying. He really missed his grandma. The following is for you kiddos. May you never forget. We have so many wonderful memories only a tiny fraction captured online. Do you remember when:

- You painted pictures for Grandma's hospital room.

- Feenie was a liar on our Outer Banks vacation that made Grandma laugh.

- Daddy thought it was his last birthday to celebrate with his mom in 2009.

- Friday with Feenie was the longest ongoing playdate Feenie had.

- Grandma.

-  We used Grandma's cookie cutters.

-  We painted crosses for Grandma.

-  People were so nice.

- Lola loved that Grandma saw her dress.

Happy birthday Grandma Roseann, you are forever in our hearts.

Kiddos,
What a very special day you had celebrating Grandma Roseann's life! I know you all were the joy and light of her life. We were so blessed to know her, and so grateful, too. If it weren't for her, the world would be a much different place. So glad you have so many great memories to share with your own families.

Love to you all.
