A tour of my semi-remodeled home... PDF Print E-mail

In February our house was flooded and we have been lovingly remodeling it with our own hands, since then. One room at a time. The first room we my husband completed was the formal guest bathroom last month.

This month our house is no longer resembling a remolding nightmare. It has not been easy to live through a remodel with three children. There have been countless nights of going to bed well after midnight and mornings where we were too exhausted to roll out of bed. My clothes are tighter from eating out and my husband found his first real grey hair. And the children now know all the fast food joints within a 25 mile radius of our abode. Needless to say, we are thrilled to see things returning to normal around here.

So. Without further ado I present to you a photo tour of the remodel thus far.  Riveting, I know.  Slip off your shoes and come see my nearly complete downstairs and give my husband a five five at the end.

Our formal entryway:

Visitors used to be greeted on a horrendous 80's white tile floor. Now they will walk into our house over wide-plank distressed maple floors from a local Amish mill.

Immediately to your right is the formal dinning room:

The vino stained, from a previous owner, carpet was pulled out and the same wide-plank wood floor was laid down. The table/chairs/buffet were a gift from my husband years ago when I vowed that two children filled my heart with enough love that I needed no more. Nine months later the toddler was born. And no more new furniture was ever purchased thereafter.

Through the doors of the dinning room is the kitchen:

Just a sneak peak because it's not complete. The final reveal will come later next week but I couldn't help but sharing the new counter top that was put in yesterday. I was torn between two completely opposite granite colors and in the end am head over stilettos in love with the shine of this color and can't wait to see how my black birdcaged hardware pulls, tie everything together.

Even my lap top looks right at home, no?

The mudroom welcomes visitors right off of the kitchen:

Just a couple of weeks ago, a set of over sized washer/dryers filled this room and didn't allow for friends to pass through. Now the room is more functional. The husband needs to hang my artwork, add electrical plates and change a light bulb and this room is complete.

My artwork:

The mudroom is really the place that our friends/family enter through so I knew that I wanted to make a collage of our hard work and display it here. I took my favorite construction shots and created a collage on Picnik (www.picnik.com) and then saved it to my hard drive. I took the file and uploaded it to Winkflash (www.winkflash.com) where I had it printed on a canvas.  I blocked out the front of our house in the middle square, no need for the Internet to see that, yo!  The end result was just what I wanted and imagine my delight when I stumbled across that wood plank with the quote, "This is the house that Love built" which has been the mantra for our remodel. Corny, yes? But perfect nonetheless.

What would Classy Chaos be without the chaos, no?  You knew it was coming.

The downstairs playroom has been our temporary pantry. BIG mistake. The toddler hasn't had much to eat at all since she spends most of her day grazing...

There you have it.  The remodel thus far Classy Chaos style!
