Burns MORE calories than a 60 minute run. PDF Print E-mail

Exactly one year ago, I posted my very first "exercise" video online for the world to see. Since then I have spent a whole lot of dollars on a high intensity fat-burning/toning class with my trainer Mark. It has been worth every penny because I am not self motivated in the exercising department and desperately need someone to push me. I look forward to the "me" time when I can focus on just that. Me.

But not everyone has the funds or the time to selfishly invest in themselves.

I am here to tell you that the statement above is false.

What I am about to share with you, my friends, is a two minute dumbbell exercise that you repeat three times. When done correctly with a heavy dumbbell or a gallon of milk (I used a 25 lbs dumbbell) with an experienced trainer by your side, your six minutes of dumbbell exercises will burn more calories than one hour on the treadmill. It will get your heart pumping and leave you breathless. This dumbbell matrix is what I end my workouts with each day. Every single one of you reading this has 6 minutes in their day and an empty gallon of milk you can fill with sand.... so behold, I demonstrate to you, what cost me a whole lot of dollars to learn:

OHmommy workout from OHmommy on Vimeo.

Here it is in snail form:

1. Dumbbell thrusters X 5

2. Dumbbell push to press, squat X 5

3. Row X 5

4. Push press X 5

5. Row (alt arm) X 5

6. Push press (alt arm) X 5

7. Cork screw X 5

8. Cork screw (alt side) X 5

Repeat three times. Allow yourself a one minute break in between. A six minute workout that, when done under the supervision and guidance of an experienced trainer, will burn more than a 60 minute run. Or you can wing it yourself and sign off on any injuries you might occur because I told you that you need a trainer next to you. It's perfect for those of you that want to shape and tone your arms. If you are in the Cleveland area and want an incredible one hour workout that will burn calories for 24 hours you can contact markaderry at yahoo dot com and tell him OHmommy sent you.

Next week on classy chaos:  the barbell exercises.

FTC disclosure:

I have not been paid or given anything in exchange for this post.

I'm simply sharing my knowledge with you, my friends, and the FTC and suck my big sweaty toe.

I am so with you on needing to be motivated by someone else...I used to take 2-3 classes a week (sent B&B to the kids room while I worked out...it was awesome). Then they grew up and complicated everything. Gotta figure out how to fit classes back into my routine. And BTW, don't you dare delete that video...you could be the next Jillian ;o)

Looks like a good burn! Got anything to work the core? My gut needs a little toning...

As a tip, you could use an old milk jug and fill it with sand or water. No one wants to workout with the scent of spoiled milk! ;)

Hockeyman if you tighten your abs while you are doing these exercises it will also work your core.

Thanks Pauline and don't dare delete this, please!

Now you're making me feel guilty! I haven't worked out seriously since August and I at a pint of ice cream while my twins napped today. Gross.

By the way - I was in Cleveland the other weekend for family wedding. The rehearsal dinner was at Crop Bistro and the wedding dinner was at Fahrenheit. Wonderful, elegant events. I also enjoyed the short time I spent walking around the city (around our hotel, the Renaissance). It was chilly though - makes me realize how far south DC is!

LOL, I am probably one of the few that does not have a full gallon of milk in my fridge. I don't even have 1/2 a gallon. But I might go buy a gallon just so I can do this workout.

Look at you go! :)

Please don't hate me for saying this, but I would be careful about having your readers do these exercises unsupervised. If don't incorrectly (and that's where a good trainer comes in!), someone could suffer serious injury to the back, particularly with exercise 6. I am NOT a trainer, but I have worked with one for the last year and a half and if I've learned nothing else, I've learned that proper form when pushing weight is not only critical, but can prevent serious, serious injury!

Just throwing that out there!

You keep on keepin' on though, girl! You look great!

I am so sorry! I just re-read your blog more carefully and completely and see where you stated at the end "under the supervision of an experienced trainer". I am so sorry! I was just imagining people running out and filling milk jugs with sand and winging these exercises which could be dangerous for some.

My humble apology for not reading through the entire blog before commenting. Consider me smacked!!!!

LOL Michelle, no problem. I did add that in because I am merely "sharing" what I do. ;) And you do need someone to show you how to complete the exercises correctly.

There was a part where you were jumping up while lifting the weight over your head - do you realize that NO part of you jiggled while you did that?!

I jiggle when I sneeze!!
