Girlfriends... PDF Print E-mail

"Moja kolezanka. Moja kolezanka. Moja kolezanka." She sang to me as we skipped hand-in-hand, oblivious to the outside world, on our way home after standing in communistic bread lines. "My girlfriend. My girlfriend. My girlfriend." My father left us in Gdansk (seeking opportunity in America during the late seventies before fully immigrating) all alone, it was just the two of us, for well over one year. I was too young to remember but old enough to understand.

It was just mommy and me.

"We are girlfriends. We are girlfriends. We are girlfriends." I sing to Fifi draping her arm around my neck as I skip in my designer boots on the way to Target for just a roll of paper towels and $87.43 worth of needless things. The setting has changed for me in the last 30 years; but, the plot is the same.

It's just the toddler and I.

It should be illegal to spend this much one-on-one time with someone you love. "I so was love with you." My mother reminisces in her broken English, about the time we were alone. With my other children occupied in school I am able to whisper sweet nothings into Fifi's ear, move onto lingering in her neck and beg for another kiss all day long.  Surrounded by a silent house, it's just-the-two-of-us. For thirty hours each week, one hundred and fifty hours each month she is all mine to do as I please.  She's my little kolezanka.

Kolezanka (coal-ah-john-kah) = girlfriend

So cute! I love the time I have with my little one too, just the two of us!

Not sure which Frye boots you have, but Target did an amazing knock-off (check out Katherine at target.com) for a mere $49.99! I mean, they look IDENTICAL!

Hey...saw your tweet and recognized the language LOL (I speak Serbian and it's similar...at least the first word "moja") so I wanted to say hi!!!
Your little one is adorable

My kids are four years apart. For the first years with my daughter it was like that with us. When she started school, her brother was only one and I had him all to myself while his sister was in class. That one-on-one time was so very special with both of them. We really have so little time to spend with our kids, enjoy these moments and memories you both are creating.

Chances are, you are creating a monster. But what a fun and gorgeous monster she will be! And who cares, anyhow! You only get these moments once!!

You just stole the words from my heart!!! I am so in love with my little girlfriend as well. How can a body love so much?!? and feel like you want more. Children are such a blessing and definitely brings meaning to your life.

Exactly how I feel with Wyatt... except when he's hitting me or kicking me

Prayers sent to Annissa, I remember she was such an inspiration at BlogHer.

I wish I had those years to do over again with The Chicken-it was hard as they hadn't diagnosed me and I was in so much pain and had such a hard time walking, but I would try to do so much more with her than watch the Wiggles over and over and over and over.

This is so cute. I've been wondering-how did your dad get the chance to go to the US in the 1970s given the borders of the Iron Curtain and whatnot?

I especially love posts like these; all of the love that is passed down through the generations...it makes me want to smile and shed a tear at the same time. And I do believe that Kolezanka is a new favorite word. With your permission, I am TOTALLY using it! Only for very special people, though.

I am thoroughly impressed that you ONLY spent an additional $87.43. I go there for something they don't even have and leave spending more than that.

I love when my 4yo tells me I'm her best friend. I'm not sure I have too many years left of hearing that so I'm holding it as close as can be.

I love hearing stories of your alone time with Fifi. I was so sorry to hear about Anissa, she and her family are in my prayers.

She is to EAT!! So, so cute... And if I had so many fun things to do (aka not dirty and you can drive there on your own...), I'd be keeping my munchkins with me all the time too!

BTW - am I going to meet your munchkins this year on my side of the world??

Darling. This is exactly how I feel when I get Quinn - my two year old to myself. It's delicious.
