Overwhelming love in a digital age PDF Print E-mail

I try not to overwhelm my immediate family with needless tidbits, cute photos and funny things the chickadees said through emails and phone conversations. Because, umm. I have a blog.  A private Facebook page posting needless messages.  And a public Flickr page with a new photo each day for the last three hundred and twenty-nine days.  It's not possible to be more overwhelming than that, in this digital age.

I imagine that my very-good-looking-single brother (he's looking for a smart brunette 18ish-30ish) and soon-to-be-married-without-any-children sister are being bombarded with material only slightly interesting from me, on an every day basis.  Both my sister and brother recently spent some days in our abode. I wanted to talk politics, eager for some adult conversation, they talked about kids. My kids.

"You should take a picture of that."

"Of this?"

stocking

"Yeah.  It's so cute."

"Is it?"

"Yes.  It's adorable!  He made a stocking for his stuffed animals.  That's cute."

babydog

"I guess it's cute."  He can't sleep without Baby Dog & Blue Mousie and he wanted to represent them, alongside our family stockings.  "That is cute."  I admitted, knowing that I wouldn't have paid much attention to the make-shift stockings created by my son if it wasn't for my sibling emphasizing the cuteness factor.

The love for my siblings grew these last few days at the same rate that my childrens' hearts grew in fondness of them. Speaking on behalf of my children and I, we are thankful for family that opens our eyes to the love that surrounds us never growing bored.  Of daily online updates sprinkled across the web. Now, that is a sure sign of love in this digital age.

Very sweet. It's amazing, the little things other people see that you might not otherwise notice.

Sounds like a terrific visit. I'm a little envious. I used to be that aunt loving all my nieces and nephews to pieces and cracking up at everything. I'm not sure we get the exact same response since we're mostly with our older siblings who are busy with their own children and have a "been there, seen that attitude". So I think it's still my job remind to everyone how awesome my kids are. Besides, the majority of my family is not really "online". And speaking of amazing kids, my 12 month old said Yo Gabba Gabba today. Amazing, huh? And it has nothing to do with the amount of time he watches tv, either

Can I ask how old this cute single brother is? I'm sorry but I cannot get past the 18ish to 30 age range. That is a HUGE emotional spread. 30 and 42 isn't bad...but something about a child who just graduated high school and a 30 year old seems off...

Just curious. I have many single girlfriends but they all complain that the guys want the 18 year olds...so how old is this single brother? I'm hoping you tell me he is 25 or something... LOL

He is 25! Working on a doctorate. Cute. Loving. Caring. I could go on and on.

So, a mature 18 yr old should not be ruled out. Only a 7 year difference. Not too bad.

Seriously, hanging out with your family is like taking a shot of Prozac! Plus, the kiddos are each so special and unique you could watch only one of them to make your day, but you have 3x as much fodder for good stories. Love the stockings~

Ok, I'll claim the younger brother... I'm not a brunette, but I'm redhead, and an 21 yo Irish one at that, so that's better!!

When does his flight arrive? ;-)

We love the Irish! The fridge at my parent's house is always stocked with Guinness. In exchange, I hope you like sauerkraut. A match made.

Pauline,
I am 24, and a law student, so you know I'm intelligent. Plus, I'm not completely unfortunate looking. (Can I say it was weird talking myself up like that? Heh, I should get myself a personal assistant to do things like that.) Just get that brother of yours on a plane to Vermont.

He only likes brunettes? Dang it!

I'll give you nieces and nephews! I've got good genes! They just happen to be blonde...

I never understood why he prefers brunettes, he shouldn't be so picky. Blondes have more fun, right?

I love the mini stockings! And it's fabulous that they connect with you through your blog. It's one of the reasons we do this, right?

Your baby brother is gonna love that you're trying to set him up over the internet... What about all of the PSYCHOS?!? And PERVERTS?!? And no. I am not talking about MYSELF.

Your brother went to Marquette right? I just graduated and I swear I have seen him around before! What a small world.

I was on my mother's computer one day and found your blog through her 'favorites'. Was curious to know what Classy Chaos was so I clicked and now I love.

Anyways, just wanted to give a shout-out to a fellow MUer. I'm sure he really appreciates this

I love the little tiny stocking.

We are the only ones with kids. I think my brother and my husband's sister will make great parents. Dam it, I want to be an auntie too.

Being an aunt is fabulous! Especially now that my brother's kids aren't afraid of the camera attached to my face!

My sister's kid have always been like my own-watched them for many a years and they are the same age as my kids. I almost enjoy my brother's kids a bit more. Spoil them and send them home :O) (Just practicing my grandmothering skills for when I need them in 30 years....right...Giggles will so wait until she is 45 to have children!)

Love the shameless plug for your brother It's amazing that with all of the things you see how many other things there are that are caught by the eyes of others.

I, gratefully, get to be the aunt that calls attention to my nieces and nephews cuteness and my sisters do the same for me. God knows sometimes it takes their eyes to see it! Wouldn't trade the relationship I have or my kids have with them for the world, it's too cool!

P.S. My sister would kill me if she knew I was the older sister trying to set her up BUT......she is a total sweetheart that happens to be 27, single, brunette and pretty damn gorgeous. Living in NYC.....just in case he is ever around the area....ya never know. right?

That sounds like the most lovely time. I know that having a family is a LOT of work, and sometimes the little moments are lost in the every day. However, for the rest of us non-child-having individuals with the achey uteri, being amongst the love of someone's family is an endearing experience. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

My sisters all live too far away to have regular interaction with my daughter or me with their kids, but when we do get together, oh man, it's on. I love it. Love seeing my nieces and nephew little quirks. The things you barely notice when you're with them every day.

I love the stockings! My son would totally do that for his animals! I also love writing down the cute stuff he says and does because I know I won't remember all of it, and someday he'll go off and leave me, and then I can look at my posts. Are we not supposed to be doing that?

I love the impish things that kids say - and your photography to accompany it.

And hopefully your sister's wedding plans are coming along swimmingly...
