Don't suggest building an igloo. It will make me cry. PDF Print E-mail

My massive pantry is nearly empty.  All the play-doh in the house is dry.  The industrial sized container of finger paint is in the recycle bin.  Every single puzzle in the house has been put together.  Twice.  We've been to the pool.  The museum.  The roller rink.  The sledding hill.   The ballet.  The movie theatre.  We've even been to the house of Chuck, for crying out loud.

Please, oh gracious nymphs of winds and snow, please do not allow our school district to call a snow day tomorrow.  It's foot-long hot dog day at the elementary school, after-all.  I know. Because I checked the lunch menu in 2009 anticipating the day that the kids returned to school.

snow

2 feet on the ground & more to follow.

snow1

2 feet = 1 fire hydrant high or 1/2 a toddler high

snow2

My sentiments exactly.

Snow looks so strange when viewing it from the other side of the equator on a hot summers day.

I do hope there is school tomorrow for you all. We have another 4 weeks of summer holidays to go and I'm already wishing I'd enrolled my kids in summer school.

I would trade you 4 weeks of summer vacation for 4 days of winter vacation in a snow belt. I am ready for the spring, lol.

I hope the snow stops and the plows start!

girlie you need to come to the westside. We only have a few inches here-its still snowing but I am not worried about school cancellations.

I am sure my girls would love if the snow suddenly decided to come down here instead. Hoping that the salt trucks & plows do their thing before school tomorrow.

omg, isn't there some kind of law against having snow days on the first day back to school? I'm pretty sure it's in the Bible.

We have had almost NO snow, and my kids would be totally jealous of yours. But I, as you know, send much sympathy. We did do big family cooking tonight after I wrote that post -- something about the process of making homemade ravioli from the pasta on up cheered everyone up. Even so, I was happy for bedtime. May your tomorrow be Snow-Day-Free, and your lunch be blissfully free of bickering. :)

Sending nothing but my sympathies your way. I return to work tomorrow, so it will be a day without the kids for me regardless of the weather. I'm praying for a miracle that our districts actually have school...so far so good, nothing's been closed yet ;o)

I love the snow for the first couple of days and then, when I have been cooped up unable to go anywhere for long enough, I want it to go away. Quickly and without all the gray, nasty snow mess that usually accompanies it.

Oi. We are totally feeling your pain over here.

I think the seasonal affective bug has hit & we're just feeling BLARRRRRRRRGish, you know.

It would be nice if we had a car though -- would be SO much easier to get out to do simple things, like go to chapters, or a museum.

Goal for 2010: RENEW license!

I can so relate to your plea! Much as it was fun, nice, okay to have the kids free from any type of class schedules for almost two weeks now, by yesterday, both Mandy (their mother) and I were relieved at the thought that at least Maya would be returning to school -kindergarten classes this morning. That dream got dampened slightly when we learned around 10 p.m. that school is operating on a two-hour delay today due to weather -very cold temps and continual snow falling so, heaven forbid it, there is now a possibility if the snow continues to fall and accumulate overnight too much, we might end up being stuck with both kids at home, beating up on each other for lack of anything better to do, for yet another day. On the other hand, the two hour delay is going to be a little helpful considering that both kids woke up now about 2 a.m. and woke their mother up, which will still not make her a really happy camper come 9 a.m. when she will have to get up then to get Miss Maya off to school! Loved this post and especially the pictures. Too cute and also, too damned funny mostly because it is all the truth, isn't it?

Gah. Time to get creative.

You see? There's this thing about Cleveland in the winter - there's this BIG LAKE, and there's this wind that has a tendency, in the winter, to come howling down from the North, and it picks up moisture from that BIG LAKE and it dumps it all on Cleveland as SNOW. Chicago has no such problem. We live ALONGSIDE the lake - not BELOW the lake. Like Hammond. And Cleveland. And most everywhere else East of here. That said - I'm sorry you're snowed in. Good Luck.

We had an ice storm last December. 28 DAYS (in a row) with no school. Even the teenager was sick of being home and wanted to go back to school!

For the first time in years, I was not ready to come back to work after our two week holiday break. I really had a good time being at home.

I hope all the little ones go to school today and that things get back to normal soon.

My condolences. If it makes you feel better NJ didn't get off scott free. We had our 2ft storm the week before Christmas so we also had the kids home for 2 whole weeks instead of just 1. Today is the day...the day the Mama Bear has her picnic. Back to school. Woo hoo. Now if only she went all day long and if only BOTH went to school.

Oh and the best part of our week of is that on the second day of closed school I didn't even know it was closed. We get calls the night before, but my 1yo considers it his mission in life to make sure that at least one phone is off the hook at all times. So no call. Got Katie all ready for school. We were outside waiting.for.the.bus when I realized how many kids were playing outside and our neighbors informed us that yes indeed, school was closed again. Our kids even missed their Christmas party day.

Suggestion #1- Get them a play date or better yet get someone else to take them in ;) (provided you can get out of your driveway)
#2- Make a movie, J will write the script, Lola will design costumes and Fifi will give story ideas like "shark bit my toes", Mama of course will operate the camera
#3- Have a summer inside party (provided your thermostat is over 70), have the kiddos dress up in their swim suits, bring out beach chairs and play beach ball, have some ice cream etc.
#4- Call you neighbor with kids and do a quick movie/board game/puzzle exchange.
#5- More cooking, arts and crafts, board games, movies, computer games. Try hulu.com for something new

OH I feel your pain... it has been snowing non-stop here, too. Add the coldness and the yuckiness of the snow to the fact that my children have been sick since before Christmas with ear infections, throat infections, pink eye, and now, over the last 72 hours, an insane stomach flu. No school for my 4 year old today. I got sick, too. It sucks, it's pretty miserable. And we leave next week for Florida, and God willing, we'll all be better by then.

Wait... all the schools are off right? Hire a neighborhood high schooler to come in and play with them. Go to your bedroom with a bottle of wine and good book, lock the door and do not open till your husband comes home or highschooler quits, whichever comes first.
