With my luck, this post will jinx Ohio with 30 days of rain. PDF Print E-mail

Nearly two years ago in March, the sun came out after a long Cleveland winter and a five year old boy exclaimed "Someone needs to call the weatherman to tell him that it feels like summer out here!"  It was fifty degrees that day.  Now that the kids are a little older I figure that with age comes thicker skin and forty sunny degrees is absolutely acceptable for outdoor ruckus.  "Let's find our bikes!"   Older, thicker skinned, stir crazy Midwestern children make for excellent bicycle cleaners as they feverishly wipe off months of settled dust in anticipation of steering their wheels around gigantic snow mounds.  In March.

"I don't care about my pants getting wet.  They will dry."  Jay, suddenly an extreme sports enthusiast, argued with me and tried to figure out if he could bike down the slope.

sun4

"I'm not sure I can. I'm not sure I can.  I'm not sure I can remember how to do this."  Lola pumped her legs on the bike while chanting to herself.

sun2

"Da sun!  Da sun!  I no like da sun!!!  It hurts me eyes."  Fifi threw her head down and refused to move.

sun

One tried to imagine a new path.  One tried to remember an old skill.  One tried to argue with nature.  We all tried to remember life with the sun.  It's been a very long time since the sun kissed our skins in Cleveland.  Is it sunny in your neck of the woods?

it's been gorgeous the last few days. i hear that mid week it's going to get rainy :(
i think there will be one more snowstorm between march 29th and april 19 (because there always is around my birthday and my sons). and then, sun and warmth all the way until next winter!

Oddly enough, no! But it usually is! I live in San Diego where the weather is almost always a perfect 70-ish degrees, but today...rain!!! But that excites my kids because it's when they get to drag out rain boots and umbrellas and splash around. My son would give his left toe to come and play in your snow!

Aww, so cute. My daughter is the same with the sun, even proclaiming "I like nighttime because the sun doesn't hurt my eyes."

Okay.

I might buy her sunglasses - lol - until she gets used to the sun.

Sigh -- the sun. I miss it too -- and I'm in Houston, where we shouldn't be complaining about not seeing the sun.

Poor Fifi -- my two year old, even though she's a nature freak, hates having the sun in her eyes.

Well, it's sunny here in Hawaii but cold for Hawaii standards. It rained here all weekend, which is unusual for this time of year. But after surviving the "tsunami that wasn't" last weekend, I'll take a little bit of rain. Your post makes me miss Ohio - snow and rain and all. I'm glad to hear the sun is finally peeking its head out. We have relatives in Northern Ohio and I'm sure they're ready for the sun, too! Enjoy!

The sun is out, and it's in the 60's. Today Andrew asked "Can I put on my swimsuit and play in the sprinkler?" It's not THAT warm! lol

Sounds just like my kids. LOL. I think we did fill the plastic pool last year in April when it reached 70.

sounds like the feenster needs a pair of sunglasses.

I took the curtains down in the living room on the west side of the house and left the sheers up before December. The past couple of days the glare from the sun has been awful in here...I can't believe I forgot about the glare.

Also I hope that it doesn't rain for 30 days-you will upset a lot of Clevelanders.

It was perfect yesterday! We spent two hours outside after school. Like kids in a candy shop pulling out toys they had forgotten about! Bring on Spring!

Yes, we have had tons of sun in NC. Today is sunny and in the 70s. Caroline didn't want to go to preschool this morning. She said she just wanted to go to the park instead.

Well, we're south of you near Akron, and I think our weather is pretty similar. I've been sitting by the window a lot, soaking it all in. We took a very mud-puddly walk yesterday and it was as if my three-year-old was let out of captivity and into the wild. He ran and jumped and at one point, rolled on the ground. He said, "this is my BEST Mommy!" (I think he meant best day)

If it snows again, I don't think I'm going to be able to handle it.

Our Florida winter has been severely long, as well. Although, not as white. But it's all relative, right?

I have my heat on this morning because my baby's toes were like frozen peas when he woke up.

"Da sun! Da sun! I no like da sun!!! It hurts me eyes." How perfect a response for Cleveland spring! (Much more heartfelt than my usual, "What is that shiny thing up in the sky?")

This is the time of the year that it isn't any fun living spitting distance from the lake, as we do. Most of the year, it moderates things -- we don't even get much lake effect snow, being so close -- but in the spring, when the lake is still frozen, it keeps things chilly. We'll be several degrees colder than folks even a couple of blocks further south, and our flowers'll bloom a week or two later.

92 degrees ... and over 70% humidity here...

I can't remember the last time I wore a long sleeved shirt.

*sighing loudly*

Seriously.

Yes'm it is. Its been a mostly mild winter up here in VT, which is a relief in a lot of ways, this Phoenix, AZ girl didn't have to drive in a lot of snow, but winter without snow is kinda dreary. I'm ready for the sun, and warm, and swimming, and fun, and for school to be DONE!!!!! Bring on SUMMER!

Fabulous post. Loved the reactions from your 3 children. And so true! We are loving the recent sunshine over here! And my boys are on their bikes, too. The other day my 2 year old opened the front door and walked outside, barefoot, to splash in a puddle. We need sun and we need warm weather!

I am reading your post in between polishing my nails; while on my chaise lounge, my kids playing baseball and I am in a bikini and they are about to turn on the sprinklers. Teachers have even done away with homework for the day!

It's 59 degrees.

Oh how I LOVE your last paragraph. Love.

The sun comes and goes around here. Today it's been non stop rain. Yesterday we were out playing on the tree swing and running around the high school track. Mother Nature is having mood swings.

Yes! It was sunny for a while here in Chicagoland and I loved it! Although, it did provide an opportunity for me to observe all the trash around the yard that has been hidden under snow for months. Yuck.

And to think I was so happy when it started snowing the day I arrived in Beijing! When I left Kuala Lumpur, it was 38C (100F), so I was only too glad to come to cold weather. And Beijing welcomed me with some snow! Today the weather is slightly "hotter", at 0C(32F). Grass is always greener on the other side, eh?

It's a beautiful sunny day today, feels like it's going to get decently warm too. But, such is living in California. Choose a day, any day. Chances are you will see the sun.

Oh, tooo funny! Yep - I too am in Cleveland and summer has arrived...only to tease us, making us believe that there will NOT be another snowstorm - until that strange, unusually bitter cold day in April when we are wolluped with 5-10 inches of fluffy white stuff!

My sister-in-law suggested I read your blog and I am so glad she did. I have been secretly lurking around and reading it for about a month now. Very fun!
