I was a much better "hands on" mom to my older two children. They were born only eighteen months apart and I had oodles of patience to explore the world of toddlerhood because it was all so new to me. I filled our time with everything a mother could possible offer like reading entire books without skipping pages and deboning a chicken for homemade soup instead of hitting up Whole Foods for organic broth. When I wasn't busy obsessing over their next meal or activity, I threw myself into parenting books to learn how I could be better.

Feenie, my third child was born when my older two were in preschool. I needed to bake cupcakes for the school fundraiser and grocery shop while the others were in school. She became my side-kick. I gave birth to an awesome Target shopper and now, with her help, I can find paper towels on sale in less then a minute. "Wook, wook... a red sticker Mama!" She has spent more hours at the elementary school volunteering with me then she has in an actual library. Together, Feenie and I, can tackle even the most ridiculous to-do-list in one day.

I attended her preschool conference this week and was surprised to hear that she can count up to ten, knows all of her colors, can draw a circle and often shares. She shares! I will be the first to admit that I haven't been as attentive as I should be to my third child. I could make up a million excuses I'm busy. I'm tired. I'm old(er) but none hide the fact that I have never sat down to complete a puzzle with her.

Imagine my delight when I discovered she had drawn her very first "person" without my help.

There's nothing cuter than a preschooler's drawing.

Awwww....

So sweet.

Again, for your enjoyment, a bigger picture...

drawing1

I should submit her first drawing to this website and/or I should add another Target run on our to-do-list, for paper.  But I really don't want to wash off the art work because it makes my heart flutter.  It's. So. Cute.  The fat circle with a slight smile.  Gah.  Adorable.  How cute would it be, if I kept it until she was in high school....

Geesh.  What has happened to me?

I am laughing so hard at your expense.

I so relate to your relationship with your youngest. My son is a very experienced Target shopper and knows where the librarian has a secret stash of toys for little siblings in the elementary school library.

Her drawing is awesome though.

That website is freakin' hilarious!

And, I would love to attend my kids' stuff more often. Their school does not allow any preschool children in the classrooms. It's a win-lose thing. Sucks that I can't ever see my kids while at school, because all my babysitters are at school too! But also, nice that I have an easy excuse about why I can't run the Easter party or Christmas party or Teacher Appreciation party or my-kids-need-more-sugar-so-lets-have-a-party party. I just send a bundle of festive pencils and be done with it.

Awww....The potato people drawings! I do miss those. I don't miss whippin' behinds over it being done on my furniture though.

At Target, Magic Erasers are on aisle 12b, just adjacent to the paper towels FYI.

I had 5 and was a SAHM until the 5th was 6 months. Then I was back in school and 29 years later she still hasn't let me forget it! You hit the attention decline perfectly!

I LOVE those kinds of drawings. My daughter just drew me, complete with long hair and knees and everything. Even though it's on the back of a used piece of paper, I treasure it.

(FYI: Mr Clean Magic Eraser will take that off when (if) you finally decide you want to remove it.)

Bwahahahaha!

Doesn't look like an antique to me. Get a can of spray urethane and coat it while she's at school. That's a keeper, mom.

Oh - it is cute! But I want to scrub it off. No, let's keep it it's cute! We should scrub it off. Or keep it.

GAH. I'm glad you have to decide and not me.

Haha... love this post! And never wash that drawing off, never! I am so OCD with my children's drawings, I have not thrown out a single doodle! I'm sure in a few years, I'll re-think this, but for now, every happy face, cirlcle, scribble - stays!

Wow...I totally never saw that one coming! I bet she was so proud of herself, too!

PS Magic Erasers should do the trick. You know, when you are ready to wash it off.

You do know that old expression - "Misery loves company" don't you? After reading this post, I had to call my daughter to come see Fifi's art work and it brought back big memories for us of my granddaughter's many drawings on the living room walls just a couple years back now. So far, her little brother hasn't picked up where Maya left off with drawing on walls but they both still enjoy very much, taking markers and drawing and coloring all over their bodies with those implements! Nice, so nice, to try to scrub that stuff off no matter what the surface -furniture, walls, or bodies!
Have a great weekend, my friend!

Aww...love those drawings! I still have a couple on my window sill and one on my staircase that Jonah drew and I have not yet erased! I keep his first drawing of "our family" in my planner so that I can hang it in on the frig in my hotel room when I am on business trips. He loves seeing it hanging up when we video chat at night. I started that when I was on bedrest in the hospital with Meredith. I kept his drawings hanging on my room frig as well! :)

My 6 year old beautifully signed a card for me with a sharpie and continued his artwork on his furniture... Best way to get it off... white toothpaste and a soft cloth...SERIOUSLY!

I have to admit I am crazy enough to have white leather in my house. I actually hypervenilated when my 4 year old (with pen) drew a "pretty picture". However I called a resourceful friend and learned something new. Of all things, hairspray got the ink out. Who new? I wished I would have taken a picture for memory sake.

All I have to say is "These 3rd babies broke us." And as I say that, my children have been in bed 58 minutes and I can hear Charlotte yelling "Go, Go, Go, go Eeeya!" (her pet name for Amelia) I am pretty sure Amelia is asleep and Charlotte is doing her best to wake her up.
Yep, I am totally broken.

You're a better Mum than me. I'd be washing that off as fast as I could find my magic eraser. Of course the baby girl hasn't picked up crayon yet so I could be wrong. ;)

LOVE IT! I learned the hard way that Purell takes ink right out of any microfiber material. Poof - it's amazing. My daughter drew GIANT happy faces on each and every cushion of a brand new couch with pen. Also, Feenie's pic looks a little like Caillou. Genius.

I am in the same boat with my third. She literally thinks she is my best friend because we go every where together. When people see me they automatically look down to see if she is holding my hand. My older two are 25 months apart and then 4.5 years later came my little one- but I do love her so!!

I would leave it. It's on something you could place up against a wall, if you really don't want it seen...BUT, you will always know it's there! ;) BTW, I have been reading your posts, but I get them in my inbox and my mind plays tricks on me and makes me THINK I have commented.

AWESOME! Don't you love when they discover how well they know how to draw...

My middle one surprised me with a gorgeous green drawing a few years ago that *ahem* I couldn't wait to wash off... See, she decided to get totally naked and take a fat green marker and color her entire v*gin* from front to back. To make it pretty.

I'd say Feenie's drawing is MUCH better. And something you can actually snap a photo for posterity... Clearly I'd have social services on me for snapping a photo of Sheridan's "artwork".

Iam a different mother the third time around too. My girls are eight and nearly six and my son isn't even two. I have less patience in some respects and les time. But I also find ghat the things like oh coloring on the wall don't annoy me so much either. It's like eh it's a phase. Ha.

On the dresser I'd make her clean it. Make sure to save the photo though.

Oh dear. At first when I started reading I thought I was reading something I had written! 1st two kids, 16 months apart - everything is new & exciting, and of course they are much more BRILLIANT than the other kids....and then #3 came along. Poor child doesn't even get to nap in her own crib, let along have them consistently. Gah. But they too, will live - and probably be much more adaptable! Yeah. I'm going with that. Adaptable. :-)

I'll tell you what's happened: you know have sadly learned how fleeting these adorable drawings are.

They get really good fast, and all these big headed alien drawings disappear.

Smart mama..leave it. It's adorable. And will make you smile every time you walk past.

That's adorable. I feel that way about my special needs son doing things that probably aren't appropriate (i.e. that I should discourage), but are SOOO normal for boys his age. "Yes honey - that stick looks exactly like a gun! Good shooting! Now go kill one of the other boys with it..."

That is so fantastic!! I have to show you my son's drawings- I kid you not, they look nearly exactly the same! Although, he wouldn't do it on a wall. That's my daughter's job.

We're talking about getting pregnant again this summer or next , and it seems as though the age difference will be roughly the same. Very interesting to read about!

AND? Don't you dare scrub that off!! ;)
