Last month Lola stood before my mother's linen closet in Chicago eyeing her choices of comforters for the night. "Which one did Kasia sleep with when she was a little girl?" Her eyes grew as my mother pulled out the comforter my sister slept under for years - the one my daughter would sleep under that night. "I just love Kasia." My daughter sighed.
Just minutes after I stuffed a preppy plaid comforter into my mother's Volvo trunk, on my way to college, my sister Kasia had already moved into my bedroom. Except no one notified me or consoled me when I arrived on Thanksgiving break 1995 to her stuff in my room. "This is Kasia's room now." I was told.
Apparently Kasia was born during a torrential downpour one April morning and ever since then my entire life has been filled with Kasia Kasia Kasia! moments. I will spare you the details but I have at least six million three hundred and fifty-nine thousand stories to prove my point like stealing and losing my polka dot bikini in Mexico and wearing a white dress on MY first communion day and blowing out my birthday candles .. . I'm sure that as the middle child, she would beg to differ. But everyone knows that the eldest is always right.
But. I digress. Now I'm parent to a middle child. A child who is absolutely head over heels in love with Kasia Kasia Kasia!
For the last couple of months... my Lola has been on team-middle-child chanting Kasia Kasia Kasia! every chance she has. "I hope Kasia uses my place cards for her shower." "I wonder what Kasia will wear on her wedding day?" "Will Kasia like my flower girl shoes?" "Do you think Kasia will hold my hand down the aisle?" To prepare my daughter for the wedding of my sister I tuned into some TV wedding shows to distract me from the ongoing Kasia Kasia Kasia! questions.
"When you are engaged I will take you to NYC to try on dresses. It will be such a special mother-daughter trip!" I smiled down upon my beautiful daughter while watching TLC's Say Yes to the Dress together.
"Can Kasia come?"
I took the sharpest steak knife up to my bedroom. I did what I had to do, people. I tore into the "preserved" dry cleaning box that held my wedding dress. I allowed Lola to try it on just five days before my sister's wedding, for giggles.
"You look so beautiful!" I admired her.
"Do you think Kasia will like it?"
Happy happy wedding week Kasia Kasia Kasia! your wedding day can not come soon enough and we are all very much looking forward to this Saturday when you can legally produce some Lolas of your own. No pressure though. Lolas are a handful and a half. Times two. |

Kasia Kasia Kasia!
Oh man.
Marcia, Marcia, Marcia; indeed!
Rough that no one even TOLD you about your room getting usurped upon leaving for college! Sheesh! ;p
(I'm lucky, my room was left alone.)
ADORABLE photos. Fun post!

Love to Kasia on her big day!
BTW - I often wonder why I paid to have my dress put in that box too. I mean, really...it would be so much more fun to have it out where the girls could play with it! Way to go!
Best wishes to your sister Kasia on her special day!
Have a wonderful time at the wedding and cannot wait to see and read all about it!
Lola looked lovely in your dress..Now she has to wait 20+ years to wear it.
And I can't believe the wedding is this weekend. Very best wishes to you Kasia. Don't forget to walk slow and take mental pictures all night.
Enjoy the weekend. Xoxo
P.S. I drove through your classy state on my way home to AZ for my brother's wedding. I got caught in a scary lightening storm, but it was a beautiful place!
All the best to Kasia, Kasia, Kasia!!
And, Lola in your dress? Love it. Makes me think I need to get mine out of my parent's house!
Happy wedding weekend to Kasia!
And, I had NO idea where you "were going" with that knife..LOL
I hear this about my brother. He's the best person in the world according to my daughters. I do have to agree with them. And? I hope he gets a few just like mine, so I can spoil them rotten and be their favorite.
Oh and send drums to a two year old. Yep. It's on my list.
exciting stuff for all of you, enjoy this week!!!
Your daughter looked darling in your dress.
