BlogHer10: blogging about blogging... PDF Print E-mail

I have this post, waiting to published entitled "Working for Free: how to make money blogging" that I wrote after my latest "free"  Blue Bunny trip but tossed it in the bucket quite sure that no one had an interest in it. I refuse to publish it because I hate blogging about blogging.  Which is why I haven't blogged about the upcoming BlogHer conference.  Because BlogHer (the largest women's blogging conference) in a nutshell is very much ... overwhelming. As is the business of blogging.  As is the the awkward response of "I'm going to NYC for a blogging conference" when telling your PTA girlfriends you are going away for the weekend.

This is my third time around at the BlogHer conference.  Last year I shared with you all you needed to know was what you learned in high-school.  And this year I still agree - it's elementary and so simple. Everything is in your hands, much as it is in real life. However, this year I turned to my outgoing kids for some more advice because they love the spotlight and I wanted to learn their trade secrets.  In so many words, this is what they said....

partay

"Laugh very hard.  People like people that laugh.  And learn some wicked dance moves.  People like people that can dance."

And my own advice... if someone gives you the cold shoulder, they aren't worth it.   Talk to people often and everywhere - those human connections are so enriching.  Much like in real life, the same rules apply so ignore the hate and embrace the love.  It's gonna be a good time.  See you at BlogHer 2010 bloggers!  This is the year that I finally told my friends I was going to a BLOGGING CONFERENCE.  Woot.  I also told my hair stylist.  I know!  I might tell my neighbor this afternoon.

Last year I was embarrassed to tell people where I was going. Blog conference? Not me, only dorks go to something like that. But this year, I'm happy to tell people where and why I'm going. Not sure if I've changed or people's reactions have just been so positive that Im happy to talk about it. Whatever the case, I'm pretty darn excited! Hope to see you there!

Reassure Dr. OHmommy that I won't text you, but the offer still stands to teach you or to have Giggles teach you because that like is like getting your PhD in texting

Wait, I totally want to hear about blogging for free. What I don't want is for there to be any fun without me this year.

Good advice! I hope I get to meet you. I have never been to BlogHer before and I'm getting a TAD overwhelmed with my social calendar and wardrobe decisions, but I'm determined to enjoy it and not stress out. :-) Thanks for the sage advice.

Now I'm off to learn some dance moves...

I love that line. "People love people who laugh." It's so true.

My first conference was Bloggy Bootcamp with SITS in Baltimore. It was pretty interesting explaining to my grandmother, who has never used a computer - what a blog conference was for...let alone what a blog is.

Have a great time next weekend. Wish I was there to hug you in person. I'll be sweltering in Disneyworld with my 5yo and some girlfriends and their kids.

Hope we get to meet at one of these conferences, one of these days ;)

I'm smiling, because like you said - it's a lot like high school - I don't feel like I'm popular enough to go sit at the cool kids table. Where the cool kids table is BlogHer and I am the nerd with glasses who eats in the library. hee hee. Maybe if I get my nerve up, I'll go next year. Plus I won't have a nursing baby to bring along, which is always a bonus.

this will be my 2nd year attending and I am still telling friends and family that I am just going away for the weekend to a "women's conference". My husband is forbidden from telling the truth!

Hope to finally meet you! I'll be wearing a big smile! I'm quiet, so hopefully, I will have the courage to say hi!
