When a girlfriend on Facebook posts "No school tomorrow and I feel like going on an adventure!  Maybe it's time to take the kids to Niagara Falls and get a stamp in the passport? Or take the train downtown to experience Cleveland midweek?  Bike the towpath?  I need some ideas.  Anyone?"

How do you answer?

It should come to no surprise that a mere twenty-four hours later I buckled the kids in the car, as I do every day of the week, and asked them "How about we have lunch in a different country today?"  Thank goodness for FaceBook and awesome spontaneous friends.

Kudos to my father for asking us one day in 1994 "Should we have ice cream in Venice?"  The answer was an unamious "Why not?" and it forever changed my travel mind set.  I hope the "Why not?" travel fever rubs off on my children and they will remember this (and many more trips to come) fondly.

Now you've got me mapquesting the shortest route to Canada from Minneapolis. Totally do-able.

I hope the wanderlust for adventure stays with your kids too. What a fabulous way to spend a free day from school.

I have the same exact mindset, but only because my family never did anything while I was growing up. I was always like- well what's holding you back!? Nothing! So why not!??? Now I take advantage of getting away. My parents still ask "WHY are you going there?" I say, "just because!" They still shake their heads.

You went from worst mom to best mom in 2 days? Not too shabby! :) Looks like a LOT of fun!! We all have passports, but it would be tough for us to get to another country by lunch. :) Maybe by dinner????

We should do this more often, we're only a 45 minute drive from Windsor.

How cool. I wish we could do that, but if you drive 8 hours in Texas, you're still in Texas.

This trip was a BLAST! So proud of how well the children behaved. Perhaps we can build up to "ice cream in Venice." Tell Dziadek I can be ready in under an hour!

So fun! We just did Niagara over Labor Weekend, for the first time! We had a BIT of a longer drive, coming from Dayton. But still- a totally doable weekend! And that Maid of the Mist is intense! We all had such a great time!

(So where did you do lunch?) ;)

I am sooooo jealous! I really want to go to Niagra Falls. It looked like such a fun trip.

Your kids are soooo cute :).

Also, I had no idea that a whole family could play the DS with the same game cartridge. That is seriously amazing. We only have one, so maybe I'll have to get another one so my boys can play each other on road trips. What a great idea!
