You guys? I can't believe this is my life. PDF Print E-mail

Shortly after my daughter's afternoon ballet class and right before bathing my three children at bedtime, I dedicated the book I wrote to the President of Poland and rushed it over to one of his aides preparing for his visit to Cleveland tomorrow.

Szanowny Prezydent Komorowski,
Jestesmy dumni z Polskich tradycji i bedziemy je kultywowac w USA w
nastepnych pokoleniach.

Paulina Karwowska - autorka ksiazki "Wigilia"

Dear President Komorowski,
We are proud of our Polish traditions and we cultivate them in the USA for
the next generations.

Paulina Karwowska - author of book "Wigilia"

You guys? I'm an ordinary stay-at-home-mom of three living in middle America and signing books for Presidents isn't something I normally do inbetween ballet and bedtime on a Wednesday.

I've been blessed in so many ways. Two incredible women, Marinka and Melisa, took the time to review my book online. They aren't Polish or even Catholic. More reviews here. This Saturday I will be meeting my illustrator Jillian Dister, a local mother, for the very first time.  She's coming to my book signing at Fireside Book Shop in Chagrin Falls. Saturday the 11th from 3 to 5pm I will be at Fireside Books (29 N. Franklin Street in CF) signing books. Swing by the quaint village for the book signing which is conveniently scheduled around the super cute children's show at the Chagrin Valley Theatre (shows at 1 or 3:30pm) perfect for children ages 3 to 10.

Signing books for the President of Poland. Supportive friends. Book signings in quaint book shops.  You guys? I can't believe this is my life.

Good for you! We received our book, and LOVE it, but we have a question... could you let us know how to pronounce the title so we'll stop butchering it? No worries about how we butcher the rest of the Polish words- we're okay doing that :) - but we really want to get the title right! :) Thanks!

I've been reading your blog for well over a year now, and when I found out that my son's first grade class was assigned Poland to be their country in the school's Christmas around the world celebration, I knew I needed to buy this book. The teacher asked for parents to send in artifacts from Poland that might help the children learn about Christmas traditions in that country. I decided that the bottle of vodka my husband brought back from a business trip to Krakow this past fall was probably not the best choice to send in for a first grade class. Nor would the Polish "football" jerseys he had purchased for our two sons help explain Christmas traditions in Poland. And while we did send in a wooden platter emblazoned with Polska and a beautiful bird on it, that too, was not a good representation of a Polish Christmas. Needless to say, the teacher was thrilled that we sent in your book, Wigilia (which arrived just in time for the party and to my pleasant surprise, was signed by you!) The teacher read it to every class that visited "Poland" that day and while she couldn't pronounce many of the Polish words (oh, we SO wished for phonetic spellings of those words to be found in the back of the book!), at least I had given her the phonetic spelling for Wigilia. My husband is 50% second generation Polish American and aside from a few recipes, has very little knowledge of his Polish heritage. We will treasure this book for many Chritmases, and Wigilias, to come, I am sure. THANKS!!
