He wore the fanny pack that he purchased with his own money every day in DC. The fanny pack held an endless collection of museum ticket stubs, subway passes, bazooka gum and hard earned money. He offered his restless sisters pennies, which he claimed contained lucky powers, if they were patient while waiting in the long lines of fellow spring breakers visiting the Smithsonians.
Inside the museums he lingered like an old man.
"My most favorite place was the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing." He said, while also mentioning that he was disappointed that there wasn't a Q&A part included in the tour. "I had so many questions!"
From an early age the kid has been fascinated by money. He learned to count well before identifying colors and later pinched his pennies for outrageous purchases like inflatable water slides and amphibian habitats. This week in DC, he opened his fanny pack every time we reached a Smithsonian donation box and searched around for the first coin he could find.
And slipped it into the box.
"Do you think my contribution will help them?" My little American treasure asked. "I hope so because one day I want to bring my own kids to see the museums." |

Great pictures.
Or you can send a tweet to @airandspace if you'd like.
I have spent many Lazy Sundays with the family at The Smithsonian annex pictured above. We're Air&Space members. I wish everyone thought it was that important.
I think those pictures are of the Udvar-Hazy Center. I think it is soooo much better than the Air & Space Museum on the Mall. It really is a treasure.
(She has no understanding of the value of a dollar, so they'd balance each other out.)
