Like any proud grandparents Babcia and Dziadek entertain their dinner guests with stories. Photo albums appear half way through dessert highlighting their childrens' travels and grandchildrens' lives. Each photograph brings forth memories, not only theirs but that of their guests too. Tales are exchanged throughout the night and everyone leaves full.

But what happens when Babcia and Dziadek invite Lidia Wylangowska, a Chicago artist into their home?

They marvel over one photograph.

And months later, receive artwork.

"My Big Sister and Me"

2011 - Oil on wood - Lidia Wylangowski

Lidia says that "Art is love made visible" and her artwork is evidence of just that. So beautiful. Dziekuje Lidio za przepiekny obraz.

Oooh, wow! So lucky! (Of course, when you have such beautiful girls and photograph them so beautifully, I suppose they are an artist's dream!
# Mrs Lemon 2011-04-11 17:02
So lovely! Treasures, the girls and the art.
# BitchinAmy 2011-04-11 17:12
That is fantastic! Honestly, it is the best oil painting of a child I have seen in an age. You will treasure that (as will your girls) forever.

That is breathtaking. They are going to fight over that painting someday. It's amazing. She captured their inner and outer beauty, as well as their sweet relationship.
# Pauline 2011-04-11 17:35
Oh my... it never occurred to me that one day they will argue over this painting. I must purchase two!

That is so beautiful. Your kids will love it someday. Not only will they love it, so will their kids. I have a painting of my mom when she was a kid and it's one of my favorite things.
# Pauline 2011-04-11 21:49
My mother has a painting of herself stashed away in the basement. I guess I should claim it now before my siblings do!

# Pauline 2011-04-11 21:52

# Traci 2011-04-11 21:09
My grandmother commissioned a pastel of me and the kids. The artist captured me and Belle perfectly....poor V looks nothing like himself. And it never crossed my mind the kids would fight over it later in life....

Either way, it's a prized posession in any home. It's a beautiful piece!
# Pauline 2011-04-11 21:53
Now I really want a piece of me with the kids and I know EXACTLY what photo I treasure.
# Al_Pal 2011-04-12 00:24

Pauline I am so jealous! This is absolutely gorgeous. Your girls photograph so well anyway, but to see them in an oil painting is just stunning. Truly a treasure!
# Frannie 2011-04-12 07:21
How lovely...and when they're teenagers and they inevitably bicker you can point to that picture and remind them what sisterly love is. :)

# Alison Kosakowski 2011-04-12 10:57
Beautiful! My mother swears if she ever has grandchildren (and yes, she really, really, really wants them) "babcia" is off limits. But I love it, and if I have to carry the little bugger for 9 months, I'll be in a good position to call those sorts of shots.

Your family is gorgeous. Good genes for sure!
# alimartell 2011-04-12 13:07
This is AMAZING.

We have a painting like that of me, my sister and my mom when I was 2-ish. It's the ONLY thing I want from my mom's house.
# Malgorzata M Palka 2011-04-12 18:06
