Which child was raised by a mother from Eastern Europe? PDF Print E-mail

Question: Can you tell which suburban trick-or-treater was raised by the mother from Eastern Europe whom survived the Cold War?

EasterEuropeanHalloween

Clue: It's the only child wearing a fleece lined hat, scratchy wool scarf, down filled jacket and layers of thermals underneath her "snow princess" costume that she found in a bucket of hand-me-downs; it's the child, who ran a mile screaming "I am too warm Mama." while trick or treating in the midwest.

Opps. We aren't in the Cold War anymore, kiddo. I'll get the memo next year.

Heh. Poor kid. I carried some stretchy gloves in my pocket and told them that if they didn't dress warmly, it wasn't my fault. Actually, it was kind of warm out tonight! Hope the kids had a blast!

So true though! I had my boys in thermal underwear longjohns, long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts... all under their costumes. Their heads had to be covered, and I made sure to bring their puffy winter coats for the frigid 50 degree Trick or Treating. I am turning into my Polish mother!

That's not even funny! My daughter looked exactly the same... she had to take her jacket off to prove she really was a fairy because her wings were under the down coat... just another thing I can blame on my Polish roots! that list is getting might long! lol

At least she was warm! It was cold here in Ohio. My little peanut didn't want to wear her coat but when I grabbed her hand a realized it was ice cold I made her put it on.

Seriously, you all are so over-prepared for cold! The Polish kids are practically in snow suits while my boys are just wearing light coats.

Why does this make me think of that scene in "The Christmas Story" when she's dressing the little boy in the snow suit? ;-P

What a crew!!

Ok, I laughed at that for a good two minutes. I was that child years ago. As a first generation child from Eastern Europe I know exactly how she feels. Here you are with your beautiful princess gown you want to show off to the world and your mom makes you cover it up with a parka - UGH! The memories are just too vivid and the pain too deep, I must stop.

I showed it to my husband and we both laughed and how my mother would have done the exact same thing. It must have skipped a generation because Ben didn't even wear a coat over his Scooby Costume! He did have long sleeves on underneath however!
