I'm totally ready for this... PDF Print E-mail

Four years ago I published a post entitled, "I am just not ready for this..." when my eldest (then five-years-old) rode a bike without training wheels for the first time. I re-read the post and almost didn't recognize myself. You guys? Why didn't anyone tell me how psycho over-protective and cray-cray I really was back then?

Although I'm sure it was a very monumental day when my middle child rode a bike, there's no photographic evidence of her on that day. I need to make sure she has enough to talk about with her therapist regarding the middle-child-syndrome. I did take a pic of her re-learning how to ride a bike after a brutal winter. That counts for something, no?

One of the best things about being the third child is that you have an instant cheering section. "Go, Feenie, go!" four voices encouraged her. Jay and Lola offered her support when she fell off. "That won't be the first time. "  "You just got to get back on."  "Trust me, it's so much fun!" "You can do it, Feenie!!!"

With so many people supporting her, she was off in no time.

The handsome hubs ran about nine miles that first day and another nineteen the next day.  Feenie was hooked on bike riding. "This is our last child, right? he joked. "I don't know if I can do this again!"

Everyone was in on the action documenting our littlest family member's first time riding without training wheels.

We are ready for family bike rides this season. A childhood pastime I fondly remember and have been looking forward to re-creating with my own family of five. Does anyone want a gently used (by three children) baby bike carrier? Because I am so ready to give it away.

Why didn't we tell you? Because we've all been there - and we knew it would pass. Slowly.

I LOVE Feenies "girly" boy hand-me-down bike with the cute added basket!

She doesn't mind the boy hand-me-downs AT ALL. (For right now) She just jacked the bike up with a flower in the basket - good enough for her.

This is great. I love the link to the old post. We were all that way with our first, it's all good!

K already wants to try to ride G's bike. It's way too funny when she does.

Way to go Feenster! Have so much fun on those bike rides together... :D

I thought the same thing when seeing the pictures in this post... I LOVE that she doesn't have a princess/barbie/sparkly girl bike. The hand me down with added basket flair is so awesome :)

Oh I think it is always SO exciting when the learn to ride sans training wheels. Kate learned last summer but just really got he hang of it to where we could go on family rides recently. I did a post just like this one too. And Dave wanted reassurance that it was the last time teaching too;)

Happy b-day to beautiful Lola too:)

Thanks Sarah. Now that it's finally spring, we can enjoy the weather! We live out in Amish country and there are days that traffic builds up because no one will pass up a buggy!

How sweet! Congrats, Feenie, on learning to ride a bike! We haven't hit this milestone yet with our oldest because my husband isn't ready to chase her yet, like yours did. Go figure.

Congrats Feenie! I need Feenie and her cheering section to come teach Matilda the tricks of riding. I worked with Matilda until I couldn't run anymore this weekend. While she got it for stretches of 50-100 feet she freaked out and jumped off her bike (or steered into the grass) EVERY TIME.

Come on over to our hood for a bike ride. The cheering section is free of charge!

Just between you and I, Feenie picked up on bike riding MUCH quicker than the other two because she had more people cheering her on.
