I've written five blog posts in the last two weeks but never published them.

After reading through what I wrote I've decided to keep our situation private online (for our beloved children) and just let you guys know that we are moving to Chicago late this summer. We have put in countless hours into our decision and weighed out all options (from Cleveland to Abu Dhabi!) - there have been many sleepless nights. This decision has totally consumed us, these past six months. Our children know just as much as you do - that we are moving to Chicago. They haven't asked many questions, they're sad to leave their good friends behind but are over-the-moon excited for a new adventure. No need to worry them (or you) with dramatic Lifetime TV screenplays. All of our good friends and family know the details.

We've lived our lives thinking we would never ever leave the area and have worked hard to build a beautiful life as a family in a ridiculously awesome community in the Cleveland that we adore surrounded by amazing friends. The husband and I spent the better part of this evening reading through my blog archives with heavy hearts. This blog has been a testament of our love affair with life and Cleveland. It's a bittersweet time in our lives.

So sad to go, but looking forward to the future.

As sad as I am for your situation, moving to a new location will hopefully give you the distance and change you need to start fresh. Absence makes the heart grow fonder ... for everyone. Here's to new memories! xx

As long as you're all together, it will be home- whether it is here, in Chicago or somewhere else... I'm sure your children will love living close to your family, and having been to Chicago twice, I can certainly see why you love it there. Wishing you all the best in your new adventure!!!

Wow, your husband is in for a big job setting up shop and building patients again. I wish you the very best. Chicago is a great area and I know you have family there. I wish I got to move back to where my family is.

Moving tips from someone who never lived in one place for more than four years as a child:
1- Pack a "first to unpack" box with one towel each, one set of sheets each, and anything else you will need in the first 24 hours. It is guaranteed that the more you need it, the harder the box will be to find.
2- As a family, choose something in your old house that really makes it feel like home - a set of curtains, a particular picture on the wall, whatever. Make it the very first thing that you put up at the new house.
3- Make the first night in the new house a family slumber party with the mattresses on the floor and order pizza. It makes for great memories and gets off to a good start.
Godspeed!

I just realized that now you won't be close when we move to Pittsburgh. DANG IT!!

I know you have lots of tearful goodbyes ahead of you and there is nothing that will make them easier. But I wholeheartedly believe every tear will be rewarded with lots of new joy and adventure. I can't wait to read about all of them. xo

Feeling so lucky that our online worlds led us to become IRL friends. Your move is bittersweet in so many ways, but I know that your family will thrive in your new home. And, on the plus side, I have a friend to visit in Chicago (and that was the first thing my daughter asked when I told her you were moving). xoxo girlfriend!

# Tara R. 2012-05-29 08:25
I'm keeping you and yours in my thoughts during this time of transition. I wish you all the best in your new home.

# Kate Coveny Hood 2012-05-29 08:42
It's so hard to move when you're a kid... We moved to DC when I was eight and I had a difficult time making that transition. BUT if anyone can turn a sad leave-taking into an exciting family adventure, it's you Pauline! Can't wait to hear about the move and your renewed status as a Chicago resident.

# Krystyn 2012-05-29 09:03
Congrats on this new journey! You are the second person I know moving to Chicago.

# Sarah L. 2012-05-29 12:32
Best of luck to you and your family! It will be so great for your kiddos to be close to your family. Enjoy your last summer in Cleveland.

# Brittany 2012-05-29 13:18
I know that it is bittersweet but I am also so happy for you to start this new adventure and be near your family again. I'm always here if you need to chat and hey - I grew up in Lake Forest so a trip to Chicago where all my childhood friends live now is in the works!

# Robbie 2012-05-29 13:42
We just did a cross country move with 3 kids and while it was heartbreaking to leave it is exciting to embark on a new adventure. Good luck with everything!

# kakaty 2012-05-29 13:52
That "can't breathe" feeling? I knew it well when we moved to Cleveland 4 years ago, not knowing anyone...starting over with a toddler in tow. You and your kids are used to adventure, but are also moving to a familiar area, close to family and family friends. I hate to see you go, but the OhFamily will rock Chicago and we can't wait to visit you there.

# Kelly 2012-05-29 15:23
We just moved to Chicago from my childhood home....brand new here...it was very hard to leave my close-knit circle of friends and family in Milwaukee...I totally get it! But my kids are loving their school and life is fun here in Chi-town. I never thought we'd leave suburban Milwaukee...I guess change is good;)
Best wishes! Are you moving to the city or the 'burbs?

# Laurie Loudenback 2012-05-29 16:28
Good luck with everything! We are moving this summer too, so I totally get the bittersweetness of it. On to new adventures! :)

# Wendi 2012-05-29 21:55
Best of luck with the move. I know you'll all do well no matter where you land.

# Jennifer 2012-05-30 08:29
You are sure to make the move a great adventure for your family! Chicago is lucky to get you! Best Wishes!

Best of luck on your move! I'm sure it will be wonderful to be close to your family again...and Chicago so much to see and do. Have a great summer.

Pauline, we know each other from SECPTA with our oldest ones and I've always liked you. I don't know what's up but I do want to extend warmest thoughts to you and your family during this obviously difficult time. Good luck and God bless.

# naomi 2012-05-30 22:08
I have a feeling you will love Chicago ... and will keep Cleveland close in your hearts.

I ditto Stephanie's comments -- I have other tips if you want them, but definitely let your kids be involved in the packing ... it can be scary when the heavy lifting of a pack out is done when they ARENT at home ... leave the house as they remember it and come home to empty (= scary!)

# Marta 2012-05-31 20:58
I am sorry for all of your struggles but I have faith that this decision is going to be for the best. Plus, selfishly this just means I probably will actually get to meet with you IRL. =)

# Sarah 2012-06-03 07:10
All the best for your exciting new adventure! P.s. Stephanie, great tips!
