Friday night is our designated "Family Movie Night."
The kids look forward to it each week mainly because our TV is unused until Friday when I lay down some snacks and the children gather with their pillows. Last week I DVRed "The Never Ending Story" and the week before that borrowed a DVD from our local library. Last month we watched "The Little Princess" (one of my favorites) and no one stirred the entire time.
As the children get older "Family Movie Night" becomes more enjoyable for us, the parents. I have a mental list of all the movies I want to watch beside them, many of my childhood favorites. I no longer have to force myself to sit through and pretend to enjoy a movie for their sake.
Tonight, our guilty viewing pleasure was "Alliens in the Attic." My seven-year-old son and thirty-something-year-old husband enjoyed it the most out of everyone. "It was a little bit scary and really funny. I liked the remote control on and off button... that was awesome." Jay smiled as he re-capped the movie to me when I was tucking him in. My husband, unavailable for an interview, actually laughed out loud more than a dozen times. The movie, at times, was a little too violent for my five-year-old daughter and she was the first to bed out of losing interest. The toddler stayed up because her two favorite things are cuddling and monsters. I really enjoyed the cast and especially the "kung-fu grandma" played by Doris Roberts (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) and chuckled at Kevin Nealon ("weeds") as the father.
LOS ANGELES, CA – (September 8, 2009) It’s summer vacation, but the Pearson family kids are stuck at a boring lake house with their nerdy parents. That is until feisty, little, green aliens crash-land on the roof, with plans to conquer the house AND Earth! Using only their wits, courage and video game-playing skills, the youngsters must band together to defeat the aliens and save the world -- but the toughest part might be keeping the whole thing a secret from their parents! Featuring a hilarious cast including comedy veterans Doris Roberts (“Everybody Loves Raymond”), Andy Richter (“The Conan O'Brien Show”), Kevin Nealon (“Weeds”), Tim Meadows (Mean Girls) and Gillian Vigman (The Hangover), as well as rising young stars Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2: The Streets), Carter Jenkins (“Surface”) and Austin Robert Butler (“Zoey 101”), Aliens In The Attic is the most fun on the planet!
Geared for the more mature PG viewers my son thought the movie rocked. From aliens building Legos to paintball guns, it was a movie made for him. I enjoyed watching my son smile. I have one Blu-ray disc to giveaway. Leave me one comment for one chance to win. Twitter about the giveaway, paste the tweet in the comments, and you can enter your second chance entry. **FTC discolsure: I was given a copy of the movie to watch and one to giveaway.** |
