When Bob Evans contacted me to try out their new "Fit from the Farm" menu, I happily agreed because it's no secret that I try to eat healthy and enjoy working out. More-so, it's an Ohio based business that stocks our grocery store with my children's beloved breakfast sausage. Before packing the minivan with three hungry children, I visited their site online to check out the menu. It listed calories, fat, saturated fat and sodium levels for each item. I knew exactly what I was going to order. I invited my best friend, who was visiting from out-of-town, to a nice breakfast at Bob Evans.
Do you want the good news or bad news first?
My orange juice was half full that morning so I will start with the good news. My best friend ordered the "Fruit & Yogurt Crepe with Oatmeal" and not only did it look delish and made me jealous, she said it was very yummy indeed. The kids devoured their entries and I was happy at all the side orders they had to choose from. My best friend's baby ate her weight in pancakes and fresh fruit.
Bad news? I ordered the "Veggie omelet" which was described as "fresh baby spinach and onions cooked into 3-egg omelet.... then topped with diced tomatoes." Meh. Gah, I was so excited to try this omelet as it featured so many of my most favorite ingredients and it was low in calories. I could not get over the quantity of onions. I asked the waitress, after showing her a mound of onions I pushed aside, if it was standard. Of course she said that it wasn't but they were short staffed and even the manager jumped inside the kitchen to help out. I ate my weight in left overs from the kid's choices. Dieting Fail.
However, seeing that my in-laws are big fans of Bob Evans I foresee another trip in our future and am looking forward to trying out the Apple-Cranberry Spinach salad. I love a good salad and this one is only 389 calories.
Want to try it out for yourself? I have one "Fit for 2010" prize pack that includes a $20 giftcard, $2 off $10, a pedometer, water bottle and a jump-rope for you. Leave me one comment per person. But, I'd love a pedometer and a chance to try them!
Really, I think more bloggers should be honest and not just starry-eyed when they get free goodies!
thanks!
