Welcome back to the Summer Block Party! For the last five days I've posted about an idea that I'm very passionate about.  Preserving memories.  I've given you a couple of suggestions and shared some unique products but we haven't touched on the most important concept behind preserving memories.

That's making memories.

One of the mantras I like to live by is "be a tourist in your own town" and run with it.  I tend to be more free spirited than my husband which makes family outings a lot more interesting.  For example.  This past Sunday, after learning that half of Cleveland was at The Tall Ships, my husband wanted to make a u-turn and speed back to the suburbs avoiding all crowds.  "How about we dip our toes in the lake instead?  It's just around the block from the port."  I suggested.

"But, we have no swimsuits."  "But, the lake might not be safe for swimming."  "But, I don't want the new car to get dirty with sand."  "But...."

memories

The kids spent over an hour swimming in their clothes.  Thrilled that "we" allowed them to fully submerge themselves in clothing and jump over waves they screamed, "This is the first time we are swimming with clothes!"  An instant summer memory.  Nothing makes me smile more than taking the longer way home and stumbling across an unexpected adventure.  One that the children will remember.

Today's summer prize package includes a $100 VISA GIFT CARD for YOUR SUMMER ADVENTURES that will turn into memories and coupons valued at $30-$40 for the following free items: JUICY JUICE®, OVALTINE®, EDY’S®/DREYER’S®, CARNATION® Breakfast Essentials, WONKA®, STOUFFER’S®, NESQUIK®, TOLL HOUSE® Refrigerated Cookie Dough, TOLL HOUSE® Morsels, DRUMSTICK® Sundae Cones.

Leave me one comment per family (tell me what's still left on your summer to-do list - what memories are still to be made?) for your chance to win.  Winner of today's summer prize package will be chosen using random.org and will be announced on Friday along with the others.  Join the fun over at : 24/7 Moms, Cutie Booty Cakes, Momma Findings and The Not-so Blog

I've still got to get my kiddos to the lake. It's supposed to be 108 here this weekend so I think that's clue enough to do it already! ;)

My kids are going to camp in the US for the first time in their short 5 & 7 year lives... and they are doing it with their cousins ... who they've only seen once a year! They're singing camp songs, they're going to amusement parks, they're playing together every single day for 4 weeks making everlasting memories that they couldn't have done if we stayed in India or moved to the East Coast this summer. It solidifies our decision to be near family this year...

I still need to take the kids river wading at the Metroparks and take them to Cedar Point.

But the best memories will probably be made during my daughter's carnival (she's planned, saved and purchased almost everything on her own and just wants to host something fun for her friends) and at our annual family picnic out in the country.

I still want to take my kids to a concert. We all love music and the kids would love to see a live "rock band". Child appropriate of course :)

Camping! For my very first time! I married my husband, an avid camper, last November, and while I am slightly nervous, I'm excited to join him on my first camping excursion. Growing up in a family where the Holiday Inn was my father's version of "roughing it," means this little excursion will hold a lot of firsts for me --and probably a lot of bugs--but I can't wait!

Being "a tourist in your own town" is a great motto. We are still amazed at all there is to do here in Cleveland and try to take full advantage.

This year river wading has been a fav activity and we still have a few rivers to scope out. Memphis Kiddie Park is on the list. And we haven't been to a Lake Erie beach yet this year, so we need to do that as well.

Still on the list: drive-in movie, weekend trip to the beach and letting my way-too-young-for-this son ride a four wheeler with his Grandpa for the first time. I need to buy some Valium before the last one happens. And a bunch of padding and maybe some duct tape.

The big thing left on our summer to do list is canoe camping. In August we want to take the kids to the mountains, canoe to an island and camp for a few days. We've never done primitive camping before, so it should be an adventure.

We have so many things still to do:
-pick peaches
-check out area water parks
-check out few more area playgrounds
-roadtrip to places like Chicago, NYC and Niagra Falls- I have an out of country visitor
-day trip to the beach (ocean)
-day trip to the river
-go to a drive in movie theater-promised 12 year old
-check out the newly opened children's museum in town
-take our kayaks out of storage and actually go kayaking this summer.

Plus many many more. Thank goodness there is still some summer left and all these could happen in the Fall too, maybe not the peaches, then we pick apples ;)

I still want to take the kids camping but it looks like it will be done in our backyard instead of at a park **pout** Just don't have the funds to rent a site right now. But thinking the backyard would be just as fun :)

We still have to take a weekend away just me and Andy, and have the kids camp in the backyard with Andy. Oh, drat...there is a theme to that...mom sleeping away from children...

I'm the worst mother, but I will make pancakes for them the next morning...at least as far as you know.

Well, the to-do list includes a trip to the Oregon Coast (sooner rather than later, I hope) and a mini-vacation to the Big K Guest Ranch in two weeks. However, the memory I hope will be made is that I hope my son's baseball team win's the state championship. Sat through four games in two days and now we have to be back up in Lebanon, OR, in less than 12 hours! We're up against a tough team and our boys our tired. The tournament so far has been a great memory!

I'm not trying to get a duplicate entry--I just noticed my errors. I must be really tired--just like OUR boys ARE! duh! The apostrophe doesn't belong in WINS either. Sorry. Didn't see how I could delete my comment--but, I'm embarrassed about my mistakes!

Well, two memories yet to be made come to mind..First, Monday(7/19) is my big 4-0 birthday(YIKES! lol) and I want to celebrate that with a few friends & family..Then, later this summer, I'm trying to afford to fly to see my brothers(I raised them after my Mom died) who moved out to California last year to pursue their music career! They JUST got their first paying gig and I'm SO proud! The $100 visa card sure would help alot!

Thank you for the chance to win!
