GIVEAWAY: Bob Books "Sight Words" PDF Print E-mail

Here are your random numbers:  24, 7   Timestamp: 2010-09-21 00:49:31 UTC  Congrats to CRYSTAL D and POLWIG!!!

If you have school-aged children you've probably come across Bob Books.  They are the #1 bestselling learn-to-read program.  When my eldest was learning to read he felt a huge sense of accomplishment when finishing each book.  With only a dozen or so pages in each book and a sentence or two on each page - children who are beginner readers aren't overwhelmed.

Bob Books, by far, were the most successful tools in our learning-to-read adventures at home.  Recently they came out with a new addition of Bob Books entitled "Sight Words" for kindergarten and first grade.  Sight words are those words that are recognized by sight instead of by sound.  Words such as was, are and out are the most frequently used words in the English language.  Sight words play a big roll in the kindergarten and first grade curriculum.

Last year both my kindergartener and first grader were asked to circle every sight word they came across at school and at home.  The more they recognized the word, the more they remembered.  Which is why I think that Bob Books "Sight Words" is a brilliant product and I wish it came out earlier for my eldest who struggled with reading - especially sight words.

BobBooksH

I received the first grade set for my incoming first grader who is an extremely good reader.  She happily read through them in one sitting.  The set includes 10 books, 30 flash cards and a parent's guide.  In my opinion this product is perfect for incoming kindergartners or advance pre-school aged kids.  I know that had it been on the market when my eldest was an incoming kindergartner I would have studied the handy parent's guide (I was clueless on how to help him) and gone through the set at least a dozen times with him.  Again, we are so thankful for Bob Books because they fostered reading independence within our young family.  Need more information?  Check out www.scholastic.com/bobbooks

It's my pleasure to offer a great giveaway to you.  If you have a preschooler, incoming kindergartner, or a child who is struggling with reading you don't want to miss this:

BobBooks_Lunchbox

Two winners will receive:

  • A Bob Books lunchbox

I think it is never too early to get kids accustomed to words and site words. My two year olds LOVE Word World (quo quord) and lately have been asking and sitting though Preschool Preps Site Words CDs that are very dry to say the least. They love them. So BOB is really for any kid whatever age excited about reading and learning to read.

I could really use these for my preschooler, Logan. He has a hard time sitting still long enough to get whole books in so I try to get literature into him at any chance I get. I have not heard of the Bob books but will be looking for them now.

i love these books. We have 2 sets. Madeline learned to read from them when she was little and is now a book worm. And now Amelia sleeps with them in her bed. She is an early riser and she reads them until someone else wakes up to play with.
I have never seen the sight word boxes. They would be perfect for Amelia right now. She is starting Kindergarten in 11 days (not that I'm counting.) :P

My oldest was a late reader (speech and hearing issues do impact reading) and we are still struggling to catch up -- we used Bob books for her. Loved them. The second is 4.5 and, cross our fingers, will read soon. Just had a call in with her teacher (after just 6 days of school!) -- and was told that 'we will be pushing her to do what we know she can' -- I'm thinking it is time for BOB!

Hey Pauline!

I'd love to win this giveaway for my daughter. She's 6 and in the first grade. These sight words would be great for her because I know she's tired of my traditional methods of getting her to learn how to read. She gets frustrated with me, and so do I (with myself), because I want to see her succeed. She struggled a tad in Kindergarten, and I don't want it to be the same this year.

Hopefully, these sight cards will help her out and give me a little peace of mind. The last thing I want to do is make her despise reading, especially when it can take you on so many adventures, journeys and magical lands. :)

I just realized that my son Jonas, who started preschool today, (I cried like a baby) would be perfect for the other set. I'm sure you know that when you have more than one child, what you do for one, you have to do for the other. Only this time, it's pleasing both the parent and the child.

I know I'm late, but this would have been perfect for my Baby Bean--she just started preschool last week and is "dying" to read.

I'm glad I found this giveaway, if for no other reason, it gives me an excuse to go find some books for her!
